ZF presented an intelligent control system for autonomous parking

ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Chinese technology company Baidu presented at the CES 2018 exhibition a new intelligent system that provides autonomous parking without a driver. This product is the result of a strategic cooperation between the two companies and is based on ZF ProAI - a supercomputer with an artificial intelligence, developed jointly by ZF and NVIDIA.

In the fall of 2017, ZF and Baidu signed a strategic cooperation agreement to promote autonomous driving technologies. Just four months since the start of the collaboration, a working prototype was developed with the use of the ZF ProAI supercomputer for autonomous driving.

The system supports a function that can drive a vehicle to a parking space and back without driver input.  Autonomous parking can be performed using a smartphone app that interacts with the intelligent ZF control unit. It can process data from the vehicle's environmental sensors and from car-to-x communication. It can then send the relevant signals to the actuators such as steering and braking systems.

The new parking system directly meets the needs of car manufacturers and mobile service providers. Electric test cars Pand Auto, equipped with automatic parking systems, were first shown to the public at a driving event in the heart of Silicon Valley - California, on the eve of CES 2018 in Las Vegas.

We are confident that this development will not remain an exhibition for a long time, and soon it will take its place among smart devices and will become a familiar phenomenon for every driver.
