Recipe for the strength and durability of hydraulic hoses from PARKER

Hydraulic hoses of different manufacturers have similar dimensions and construction, but the use of different rubber compounds and reinforcing materials causes the significant differences in real technical characteristics.

Standard hose consists of basic elements: inner tube, reinforcement layer and outer cover. Each component performs its function.

The inner tube must have a relative flexibility and be compatible with the type of operating medium. Parker Hose Products Division typically uses compounds such as PKR rubber, synthetic rubber, butyl rubber and EPDM rubber. Each compound can react differently to the media being conveyed. For example, EPDM is a synthetic high-density rubber compatible with coolants, ketones, hot and cold water and various alkalis. EPDM-based hoses are resistant to heat, weatherproof and ozone-resistant, retain excellent flexibility over a wide range of temperatures.

The second chemical normally used by Parker is an acrylonitrile (ACN) polymer and butadiene. Nitriles are well compatible with oils and standard hydraulic fluids, but they degrade the elasticity characteristics at low temperatures.

The reinforcement layer strengthens the inner tube and gives the hose strength and ability to maintain pressure. It consists of one or more sheaths of braided wire, spiral-wound wire, or textile yarn.

Wire Braid Hoses withstand a wide range of pressure and are able to provide flexibility, as well as properties adapted to specific operating conditions.

Wire Spiral Hoses are used under high-pressure conditions and where life is critically important.

Textile Reinforced Hoses are ideal for equipment requiring lower pressures and high flexibility.

The outer cover protects the reinforcement layer from abrasion, corrosion, exposure to chemicals and ozone.

Despite the fact that the construction of hydraulic hoses is similar to all manufacturers, the Parker division applies its "recipes" of rubber compounds and reinforcing materials, which makes the products more durable and reliable. The ability to withstand extreme operating conditions is confirmed by careful laboratory tests.

More details about the types of hydraulic hoses are written on our website.
